Description

There are a lot of reasons that people are talking about wheat going into next year.  If you’re a grower who hasn’t put out wheat in a while, should you listen to the buzz around wheat due to the war in the European breadbasket?  To dig in here, long-time participant in the podcast and resident agronomist, Glenn Longabaugh joins hosts Ryan Priest and Sal Sama in the podcast room for this episode of The High Ground powered by Premier Companies.

Glenn explains the economics of wheat, double-cropping, and how double-cropping may be able to work for you but doesn’t work for everyone. Glenn describes wheat as a “gentlemen’s crop” with a steep husbandry learning curve that can result in a lot of cash flow if it’s done right.  Glenn will also dig into the fly-free date, 15-inch rows, and planning for the upcoming season.  You’ll also want to take wheat tillers, planting dates, and nitrogen usage into the equation.  If you’re remotely considering growing wheat, grab a pen and paper for this one!
