Description

Sermon on 11/30/25 by Pastor Todd Sapp

What does washing dirty feet have to do with God’s deepest nature? This powerful message explores the Theology of the Towel in John 13:1-17, where Jesus shocks His disciples by performing the most menial task. He models that true service is the core of discipleship.

We'll unpack four crucial truths about service:

  1. Service is Motivated by Love: Jesus served His disciples, including Judas, even in His hour of deepest emotional anguish. This exemplifies how love drives us to serve without expecting return.
  2. Service is Not Transactional: Jesus served even those who offered betrayal, teaching us that true generosity gives when there is nothing to gain.
  3. Service is Bigger Than a Singular Act: Jesus explained the foot washing as a lesson in sanctification—a lifelong process of growth after salvation—not just cleaning feet.
  4. Service is Contagious: Jesus set an example ("You also ought to wash one another's feet") intended to spread, leading to a visible culture of love and care (John 13:35).

This sermon challenges every believer (and every boy and girl!) to move beyond admiration of service and into active obedience: Blessed are you if you do them.
