Description

Ed Schenkein, Office Leader at SingerLewak LLP, talks with Greg Aden about moving from leading with ego and intellect to leading from the heart.

Ed traces the shift back to his late twenties and names the people who shaped him along the way: his mother, who went to law school while he was in high school and showed him he could do anything he set his mind to, and his partner Wes Stark, who taught him he did not have to know everything, only where to find resources, and that it is okay to leave a little on the table when you are doing the right thing. He also credits coaches Doug McGee and Bob Newman for helping him grow more comfortable with vulnerability.

His advice to emerging leaders is direct: trust yourself, quiet the ego, stay self aware, do your work, and be generous, respectful and kind. Greg and Ed also talk about curiosity and playfulness as a way to stay young, the power of good inquiry, speaking on stage as a growth point, and why Ed believes in the next generation of leaders.
