God gave us the law in the Old Testament to demonstrate to us that we are all sinners. No matter how much we try we cannot lift ourselves out of our sad predicament. Here, in the prophecy of the birth of John we see God calling us to repentance – to change – to acknowledge that we need Him. And finally, in Christ’s life, death, and resurrection is revealed the Gospel. Through Him there is hope for all of us.
