Description

In the last episode of the podcast before we take a Christmas break, we have gone a little musical at Alnwick Castle, as hosts Daniel and Deborah explore the Northumbrian pipes, their history and their connection to Alnwick Castle. Earlier in the year, Daniel spoke to Richard Butler, who was appointed Piper to the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland in 1982 - part of a centuries-old tradition of bagpiping at Alnwick Castle. Richard also plays us selections from a few of his favourite tunes.

Richard sadly passed away in 2022 and this episode is released as a tribute to him and his work at the castle over 40 years.

We hope all our listeners have a great holiday season. The Alnwick Castle Podcast will return in 2023 with more special guests and insights into our fascinating history. Make sure to subscribe so you don't miss an episode, and we'd be very grateful for any reviews, ratings or recommendations you can provide!
