The Alnwick Castle Podcast is back for a new year! In the first episode of 2023, hosts Daniel and Deborah find out more about the Jacobites, and their uprisings in favour of the Stuart dynasty in 1715 and 1745. These were major events in 18th century Britain, particularly in Scotland and the north of England, and Alnwick Castle has connections to several of the important figures involved. We spoke to Jacobite expert and historian, and curator of Modern and Contemporary History at the National Museum of Scotland, Georgia Vullinghs, who tells us all about Jacobites, covering everything from the Earl of Derwentwater's bedsheet to failed attempts to take castles during the uprisings.
Whether you already know all about the Jacobites or want to know more, or if you're just a fan of Outlander - you're sure to find our conversation with Georgia fascinating.
