In this age of moral relativism, literally anything goes because truth itself is under attack. No longer is there anything that can be said to be obvious, common sense, or the evidence of nature or natural law. There isn't even anything that is said to be defined by divine creation. Truth is whatever people want it to be. Sounds good. Sounds like freedom. But what it really is is an irrational, nihilistic march into slavery for if there is no truth, there are no inalienable human rights, no freedom, no science or certainty, no law, no trust, just anomie, alienation, despair, and disillusionment. Think this is overstated? Just listen to the raucous division of American culture, what passes as discourse is little more than social media food fights with everyone doing what's right in his or her, or should we say them/they eyes?
