As we continue our series in Jonah we have finally reached the the most famous part of the story of Jonah (him being swallowed by a fish). But, this section of scripture is about way more than a fish…its about grace. At its core grace is the idea that the un-obligated gives to the undeserving. Anything short of that is not biblical grace. In Jonah 2 we see God’s grace on full display, Jonah is completely undeserving of mercy, and God is completely un-obligated to show him mercy but in a divine act of grace God shows his steadfast love to Jonah, sending a fish to save him.
