MAKE YOUR MARK
Springcreek Church | Pastor Jessica Fernandez, Ph.D.
January 1, 2023

Every new year causes us to think about the impact we want to have on the world. We want to do something that will cause us to be remembered, famous, or successful. In the Bible, Samson, a lifelong Nazarite who was set apart and devoted to God was given the gift of incredible strength, and yet many times we see that Samson’s choices are less than ideal. We learn that gifts can be used for good or ill. Like Samson, making your mark can go both ways. We can make a positive or negative impact based on how we decide to make our mark. It is dependent on whether we use our gifts to honor God or bring honor to ourselves. Join us this Sunday, in-person or online, as we kick off the new year together!

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1.) What mark do you want to make in 2023?

2.) God sometimes uses evil actions to accomplish His good purposes. God will never lead us to sin but God used Samson's own self-interests to create an opportunity to deliver Israel. Have you ever made a bad decision and God used it for His glory? Tell us about it.

3.) Have you been in a situation where you were about to make a bad decision, and an inner voice of reason (the Holy Spirit) rushed upon you and confronted you on what you were about to do? Did you decide to submit to the counsel and confrontation of the Spirit or did you do things your way?

4.) As people who want to imitate Jesus, are we staying away from things, people, and places that cause a separation between us and God? Are you consuming things that bring life? Or are you consuming things that bring death? What are things that draw you closer to the Lord and what are things that draw you further away from God?

5.) Are you allowing the Spirit of God to lead you? Are you willing to consecrate and separate yourself for God’s purposes with sacrifice and submission to his will? How will you do that?
