How about when you're no longer young and working toward anything - you've already got everything you ever wanted (career, spouse, kids, money, degree, etc) and you feel something pulling you toward something new?
Or what if you have nothing you ever dreamed of and your life is a mess and you feel like it's too late for anything good to happen?
Whether it's good or bad, we often find ourselves hiding in our baggage, not wanting to step into anything we may feel called to for fear of what may change or go away.
