This episode comes straight from my heart. I’ve been thinking a lot about my role as a parent and the reparenting of myself that becomes possible in the process.
One of the many gifts of parenting is the window it gives us for a deeper and more full understanding of ourselves. I never realized how much I would come to learn about myself, my habits, my idiosyncrasies. Nor that I’d discover so much about my own brain and nervous system in terms of how it’s been shaped and developed in my most formative childhood years.
Obviously we want to be the best parents we can be, but it’s also a chance for reparenting ourselves. And when we do we will be the recipients of even greater gifts that soothe our minds, our nervous systems, and our souls. Trust me—this is good for your kids too!
Note: My use of reparenting and the practices I provide are NOT mainstream in popular psychology and psychotherapy circles–but I think you’ll find this application makes perfect sense and nourishes you on a much deeper level than you initially expected it to.
