Elizabeth Lockinge, Wendy's mother has learned of a mysterious stranger visiting the local Zoo taking photographs of the animals. She believes the stranger may be a journalist wanting a story on animal rights. She contacts Wendy because of the animal rights activists led by Dando Llewelyn at the University and tells her she will investigate on her behalf.
Wendy has her own suspicions, and urges her mother to drop her plan of investigating what the stranger is up to.
