Book marketing remains a dark art. Particularly for debut authors. There is no simple formula, and I won’t be supplying one here. What I want to share is the cover blurb for the book, ‘I Will Find You’ by best-selling author Harlen Coben, and discuss some of ways it has been crafted to achieve maximum impact.
I came across the book as I browsed the new thrillers section of my local bookshop. It competed with others all of the same genre. Maybe the author’s name was an additional attention-grabbing device. But that would not have been enough to complete the sale. The cover, likewise, was competing with a dozen in similar glossy excellence and design.
I turned to the fly- cover information. I became hooked. It is in my view one of the most powerful examples of how such a blurb might be constructed.
