2 Peter 1:5 is the text for this sermon entitled, "Supplementing Our Faith." Peter writes about how important it is to build up our faith by supplementing it with virtue and knowledge.
Since God has used His divine power to give us the gift of life and godliness and rescued us from the corruption of the fallen world, we need to work to maintain our spiritual health. We must seek growth with all earnestness. How? By working to grow in virtue and knowledge. And of course, the list will continue in the next verses.
Virtue is moral goodness and purity where the inner and outer person reflect the image of Christ. Knowledge is intelligence and understanding the truths that God has revealed to us in the Bible. But it is more than just knowing about it. It goes beyond conceptual knowledge into experience with the truth, having applied the concepts to our everyday lives.
