Description

Romans 8 is one of the most encouraging and powerful chapters in all of the Bible for believers. It begins with "no condemnation", it ends with "no separation", and is filled with our "adoption as God's children". In this first sermon, we see how the Holy Spirit gives us new spiritual life, empowers our new spiritual life, and assures us of the resurrected life to come.

3 reasons we don’t share our faith with other people:

  1. We don’t truly CARE for others.
  2. We don’t BELIEVE our faith is real.
  3. We’ve lost confidence in our own STORY.

TEXT: Romans 8:1-11

3 signs we are living a life in the Spirit:
1. The Holy Spirit gives us NEW LIFE (1-4)

Quick overview of Romans 1-7
(1:1) - A brief introduction.
(1:3) - Paul presents the facts of the gospel.
(1:16) - And declares his allegiance to it.
(1:18-3:20) - From there, he continues by building a strong case for the lostness of humanity and the necessity of God's intervention.
(3:21-5:21) - Then Paul presents the Good News: Salvation is available to all, regardless of a person's identity, sin, or history. We are saved by grace through faith in Christ and his finished work. Through him we can stand before God justified, "not guilty”.
(6:1-23) - With this foundation, Paul moves to the freedom that comes from being saved and freedom from the power of sin.
(7:1-25) - Then on to the freedom from trying to master the OT law.

2. The Holy Spirit EMPOWERS our life (5-8)

3. The Holy Spirit ASSURES us of eternal life (9-11)

Are you living life according to the Spirit? Or are you living life according to you?
