Description

Since Jesus is the way... we can follow Him. Though it might be easier to focus outwardly, Jesus wants us to follow him inward... inside ourselves. If we're going to focus on God in our lives, we must be comfortable looking inward because that is where God is.

The Way In

James 1:22-25 (NLT)

22But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

As you follow Jesus, you relinquish your right to avoid looking inward.

  1. When what you see is good... celebrate it.
  2.  When what you see is bad... investigate it.

We tend to invalidate the good and ignore the bad.

  1.  We have to learn to celebrate the victories in our life.
  2.  The best thing we can do for ourselves is get curious about ourselves.

Mirrors are necessary for self-reflection.
People are necessary for self-perception.

When we combine looking carefully at God’s Word and doing God’s word... it increases our ability to remember God’s word.
