In the Disaster Restoration industry, Balancing Relationships and Ethics is tricky!
In the disaster restoration industry, establishing strong relationships with insurance adjusters is a key factor in growing a sustainable and reputable business. These relationships, however, exist within a complex ethical and legal framework, where the line between professional collaboration and inappropriate steering must be carefully maintained.
Adjusters are obligated to remain impartial in their vendor recommendations, ensuring policyholders have the freedom to choose their service providers. At the same time, adjusters often prefer to work with contractors who are proven, reliable, and efficient — professionals they can trust to deliver quality work and clear communication during high-stress claims processes. The challenge for restoration companies lies in helping trust-based relationships without exerting undue influence or compromising adjuster neutrality. And I might add, adjuster neutrality is probably rare.
