Description

“Red Shaydez’ Red Shaydez Day” features a talk between Fitchburg State’s own Toni Magras (COMM ‘25) and Fitchburg State alumna, hip-hop recording artist, educator, and cultural architect Red Shaydez (COMM ‘14).  In this episode, Red dives into her roots, her inspirations, her journey as an artist at Fitchburg State, her favorite hip hop artist(s), and more!  To mark Red’s return, Fitchburg State declared May 6th, 2025 Red Shaydez Day on campus.

The interview was recorded live on May 6th, 2025 in Hammond Hall’s Falcon Hub as part of the Classroom Stories series.  Hosted by Toni, with an introduction from Professor of Economics, History, and Political Science, Prof. Katherine Jewell, the conversation grew out of a section of the course HIST 1500, United States 1877-present; students in the class assisted with event preparation.

Red’s “Buy All the Land Up (Radio Edit)” was used with permission of the artist. (Thanks, Red!)  Check out the music video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdIiBl3kM3o .
