Notes:
Now in its third week KOFM is a magnificent film. And for the trivia players out there, Martin Scorsese won his long deserved Best Director Oscar for The Departed and not Raging Bull as I initially and incorrectly answered as the movie consultant for our team, who won anyway despite my gaffe. And yes, I agree that Jesse Plemons has way too little screen time and Leo DiCaprio’s body language speaks volumes, in both the literal and the figurative. I will also say that this film, while staggeringly intense, is not for everybody, and, further, that the violence that does take place is more emotional than physical, which can be jarring in its hyper-detailed allegiance to the facts. They call it non-fiction for a reason.
The latest from Sofie Coppola is next up, PRISCILLA. Sofie takes ownership of both the writing and directing, selecting newcomers Cailee Spaeny and Aussie Jacob Elordi as her luminaries. The synopsis from IMDB: When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis at a party, the man who is already a Rock n Roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: A thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a venerable best friend. Through Priscillas eyes, Sofie Coppola tells the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German Army base to the dream world estate of Graceland, this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy and fame. Please note that we will premiere PRISCILLA Thursday night at 6:45. And then on Friday:
The MASTER CHIEF plays the day before Veterans Day, Friday night @ 9:30 (2130). It is an autobiographical tale of life in the US Navy as a Filipino-American. The writer and star, Chris Soriano, takes us on a wild ride at sea, in the air and speeding along the tarmac at breakneck speed. Along the way we meet up with racism, power, corruption, stead-fast allies and ruthless villains. I have been playing the trailer for a few weeks now and I am genuinely looking forward to seeing the film, created as a TV drama pilot, on Friday night.
WOMEN DON’T CYCLE I s the story of one woman on a trip from Brussels to Tokyo. Took her the better part of one year and you will simply have to see her documentary to truly understand the beauty and danger that lies between those two diverse cities. The film is a fund raiser for Squeaky Wheels, so please come out and join us at noon on Sunday the 12th for this two-wheeled adventure . All my cycling buddies are required to attend in support of our cycling community. Tickets at the door.
There you have it folks. Thank you for all your kind comments about our new pre-show entertainment videos. I have been trying to get one new one per week done, but the load is taking its toll on my poor body, mostly due to the fact that in order to spend the required time sitting in the editing room I have sacrificed sitting in the saddle and riding my bike.
Lastly as you will see in the closing frames of the latest video, we are intrepidly looking for that perfect person to augment our current cast of characters assembled here to serve the movie-going community at the HLT. Should you be interested in this glamorous position, please come in and we’ll chat. Thanks so much!
