SPECIAL EVENTS:
SAT JAN 24 - LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL @ 4PM*
SAT JAN 24 - A MOST BEAUTIFUL THING @ 7PM**
TUE JAN 27 - BIKES VS CARS @ 6:45PM***

For the Jazz (and music in general) lovers out there, please take immediate note of THIS FRIDAY NIGHT’S double-dip as we pair Islander Michael Murphy’s award-winning doc UP FROM THE STREETS with the HS Jazz Band THE FLAMINGOS as live musical opener at 5:30. All for the throw-back price of $15.25 and $12.25 for the seniors and kids. WOW! And remember we now feature TWO dance floors on either wing, up close and ready for your feet to move. TIX.

* LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL. In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day, this student led FREE SCREENING of the Academy Award winning (Roberto Begnini, Best Actor) of 1999, is a powerful lesson in the power of love in a time of hate. Gary Rydstrom won for sound, one of his seven, on Saving Private Ryan that same year.

** A MOST BEAUTIFUL THING. Sponsored by BAINBRIDGE ISLAND ROWING, this is the second most popular (BI as the epicenter of voting) rowing film in America. This film chronicles the first African American high school rowing team in this country made up of young men, many of whom were in rival gangs from the West Side of Chicago, coming together to row in the same boat. Tickets will go on sale Tuesday.

*** BIKES vs CARS. SQUEAKY WHEELS hosts and sponsors this “pay what you can” event on Tuesday night, Jan 27 @ 6:45. A 90 min Swedish doc that looks at the world from two wheels. The bike is a great tool for change, but the powerful interests who profit from oil and cars invest billions each year on lobbying and advertising to protect their cash cow. In a world of cars…ride a bike. SW Q&A follows.

MARTY SUPREME. Only eight screenings remain of this brilliant American anti-hero biopic of the titular character. Marty has a few (!) character defects (depending on who you ask and how they rate flaws) but he simply will not allow anyone or anything block his dream of stardom. Superb (or supreme) visual storytelling by Josh Sadie.

NEWS AND NOTABLES. Our seat sale is now officially in its home stretch. July 3 being the date of our 90th anniversary. There is still time to claim your seat and support all that we do under the ample umbrella of the BI Arts & Humanities Community. I refuse to second-guess my initial thinking that a thousand dollars for this noble effort is the perfect amount satisfying all the requirements - without a sliding scale. We will, however, entertain all legitimate offers.

Quarterly music lineup (PLEASE get your tickets early):
FEB 21, TRUE LOVES (Funk, Blues, Jazz, Rock)
MAR 28, VICTIMS OF LOVE (Eagles Tribute)
APRIL 18, BATUKA (Santana Tribute)
MAY 23, GOOD DAY SUNSHINE (Beatles Tribute)

Need to chat? Call 206.451.4336. E at Kevin@Farawayentertainment.com, or stop by at your convenience, we are open 365 days per annum. HLT (Historic Lynwood Trivia) for a pair of free movie tickets this week is: Of the following three leads, who is NOT (considered) an anti-hero:

A) Clark Kent
B) Lisbeth Salander
C) Snake Plisken

Have a great week, come see Marty.
