November. Already. Where has the time gone? This somewhat overused sentiment got me to thinking this morning as I prepared this episode. If one, and I'll use the third person here, asks the 'where did it go' question, as it refers to the fleeting nature of time, shouldn't the more important question be: what has that one done with it and how should the past shape the present? I think that is the better question. And so Director (and screenwriter) Todd Fields asks in Tar. I get the message that he is asking, using the immense talents of Cate Blanchette as proxy, that change is good, that character can be shaped by the transgressions of the past and that it is not 100% necessary to separate the artist from her art in order to fully appreciate the intended experience of said art. The same might be said of the earlier biopics we enjoyed this summer with Elvis and Bowie (The King and Ziggy Stardust). Regardless, it's Nov 1. It is also 2022, and there are things to be done, wrongs to be righted, stories to be told, votes to be cast and options to be considered. All of the above are dramatically presented and metaphorically submitted for our consideration in Tar. Which continues for another week at the HLT. Additionally, for a touch of biting comedy relief, we'll debut the Triangle of Sadness to the cinematic mix on Friday. Here is the schedule for the week:
Tar plays Tuesday thru Thursday at 4:30 & 7:25
Friday Tar plays at 4:20 and Triangle of Sadness debuts at 7:15
Saturday & Sunday Tar plays at 1:30, with Trangle at 4:30 & 7:15
All for now folks. As a homework assignment, especially for those who remain perplexed by the phenomenal ending of Tar, please check out Monster Hunter, as it may shed some light on the often steep transitional bridge into the 21st century of social phenomena.
Peace out.
Kevin
