Indigenous Peoples Day. Because Christopher C was a Genovese turd. As were many Europeans in the fifteenth century. It is without a doubt our darkest, most disgusting elephant in the room. Our dirty little secret in a pathetic, unconscionable parade of diasporic atrocities. More on the subject of political genocide in a bit, but after that rather bleak lede, let’s segue to the N&B, the nuts and bolts of the Historic Lynwood Theatre’s well oiled movie machinery. Shall we?
This will be another, in a long line, of gigantic, awe inspiring and adrenaline pumping cinematic opportunities for you, the vast HLT viewing audience - heretofore to be known as - The HLT Family. So hey Fam, happy Monday!

You already know all about STOP MAKING SENSE. It flat out rocks. I love it when people dance in the aisles, falling into the groove web cast by DB and the TH. My one and only ‘criticism’ of this incredible performance (shot over three days at the Pantages in LA circe 1984) is the version of Take Me to the River. Granted it is a soulful gospel show stopper with a killer vamp, but I remain so completely enamored by the original version that this seems almost sacrilegious to my ear (and soul). If you wanna call me out for picking nits, have at it. If this is its most glaring weakness, all that does is lend additional testimony to the quality of everything preceding and following this tent pole aerobic singalong.
One additional note on dancing in the aisles. Who was at the TRUE LOVES show Saturday night? If you were one of the lucky (almost sold out) fans grooving to their fat R&B vibe, you know of what I speak. BIG HLT kudos to Jimmy and the TL, Andrew J for his stellar event direction, our crack sound and light crew and you, the audience - who dropped an average 4.7 pounds dancing to the sweet brassy (two trombones) sounds of the True Loves.
FRIGHT NITE ’23. Why not? My intrepid assistant Cherry Jackson suggested a month ago that we should do something special on F13. We discussed the possibilities and options in the entrance to the auditorium, me on the linoleum riser of the concession stand and she in front of our utility closet. You all know what movie poster hangs there. Film One, natch. Film two, comprising the double bill, was an even easier choice, the titular namesake Friday the 13th. There you go. We’ll premiere AMERKATSI at 4:20 then turn it over to Mr. Hitchcock and Jason for a double feature guaranteed to scare. Ten bucks at the door gets you admission to one, the other, or both! Food specials to and maybe even some give aways too. Should be a special night.
AMERIKATSI storyline: Charlie escapes the Armenian genocide as a boy fleeting to the Unites States, but he returns as an adult and is arrested. He watches an Armenian couple from his prison cell, finally learning about his homeland.
I am not 100% sure that things will get any more comfortable after FRIGHT NITE, AMERIKATSI and then, big non-spoiler, KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, starting on Oct 20, but one thing we all recognize as a universal trope, man’s inhumanity to man, is alive and disgustingly well, as we speak. Have we learned nothing? No.
