THE UPRISING. Given the glorious opportunity to green light a potential franchise simply by adding a single scene to a film all but in the can, must be tempting as hell. Especially when the alternative is dying a torturous, ignoble demise at the hands of armored, mounted, sword-wielding goons, aka, The Kings Men. Go ahead and take your shot, Farmer. Even if THE UPRISING, as a ROBIN HOOD origin story bombs (as it is), you still have a solid starting point; Nightmare screams from the castle while thunder and lightning add the dramatic and obligatory emphasis. And whilst (since were going all in on UK lore) we’ve suffered through several less than spectacular sequels in the Prince of Thieves saga, maybe Paul Greengrass is the guy to take it over the top. Fanboy tip: Ink EMILIA JONES to play Maid Marion and I’m in.
YOU HAD TO BE THERE. We all remember GODSPELL, right up there with HAIR, FIDDLER and JC SUPERSTAR as mega musical stageplays of yestercentury, but I was surprised to learn of the back-story of GODSPELL, being Canadian and basically a cast-call for the gaggle of talent that became household names in US TV. Martin Short, Mike Meyers, Gilda Radner, Victor Garber, Eugene Levy, Lin-Miguel Miranda, Jeanie Garafalo. I’m cracking up already! We had a solid run with the PETER ASHER doc a few months back so I think this doc will follow suite. Doesn’t hurt that IMDB has it at 8.2/10. THAT is serious business.
THE SALT PATH. Adapted from the 2018 nature memoir by Raynor Winn, The Salt Path takes us along on the journey of Raynor (played by Gillian Anderson) and her husband, Moth (Jason Isaacs), who decide to walk the 630 miles of the South West Coast Path, from Minehead in Somerset to Poole in Dorset, as their only resort after they lose their home. Having been to both Somerset and Dorset, and done several long distance jaunts (by bike) I feel comfortable to say that even without the added conflict of losing one’s home (been there too) and dealing with a life threatening recent cancer diagnosis (fingers crossed) 600 coastal miles in the UK by foot is adventure with a capitol A. Looking forward to a look at this one, the drama may be a plot device but the scenery will surly inspire.
LOST BOYS. BOBBY and KAREY ROE host another in their fabulous film series, this time, moving from Rom-Com to Vampire light, in the cultist lair of Rockstar Vampires. 1980’s teenage rebellion, razor sharp horror-comedy all blend with a fish out of water coming of age classic. Meet up across the street at THE MARKETPLACE, dress appropriately. Sponsored by HEART & SOUL. THURS OCT 1. Bargain tix, $10 is for the meet-up, the film is free, here.
DANNY & THE FIG-ATONES. Bring their soulful sounds of jazz, blues and gospel back to the HLT on SAT OCT 3. Should you still have doubts as to what, actually, a pocket groove sounds like, this is your chance to find out. TIX here.
DARIA ILGEN RALLY, OCT 4 @ 4. When and where politics meets music. Always wanted to see NIRVANA live? This might be as close as you'll get. Details to follow.
EVE, an animated rendering of the prose of EVE PALAY, EVE is an expression of self-love and acceptance, a deeply personal experience of transition and living as a trans woman in the Pacific Northwest. SUN OCT 11 @ 1P. Donation at the Door.
NO COUNTRY FOR MOTHERS, a doc investigation into the lies dividing American Mothers and the movement to bring them back together. Free screening, please register here. SAT OCT 17 @ Noon.
ROADLESS. From the makers of THE COLUMBIA RIVER CANOE PROJECT, ROBERT LESTER and CO. bring another spectacular outdoor adventure, this time in the raw Alaska wilderness, to our big screen for a three-day run Oct 23-25. If you saw CRCP, you know the where ROADLESS is heading; Big, dangerous and absolutely breathtaking. NOTE: ROADLESS has been moved to NOV 20,21 & 22.
All for today folks, thanks as always for your support and cheers to all who came out yesterday, despite the glorious sunshine, to view and listen to THE PLASTIC DETOX, compliments of SUSTAINABLE BAINBRIDGE. This with apologies for the need for a quick exit as a result of scheduling those pesky Hollywood feature films, as yesterday’s cinematic offerings geographically and spatiotemporally traversed from Bainbridge Island to England in 1381 and then to 76 days adrift in the Atlantic Ocean. I will confess to being a little fatigued after that trio. But the show must go on, and we’ll start up a new week this afternoon, please joins us and leave your comments, suggestions, advice, correspondence, counsel or compassion at 206.451.4336 or on FB, Insta or stop by to chat. Hope to see ya soon, ciao.
