We had local filmmaker Andrew Taylor on the show way back in July of last year. It was a grand adventure. We premiered his short "Steak" a few months ago. That was marvelous experience for family, friends, cast and crew as well as for us, the humble employees here at the HLT. Today Andrew and I sat down to hash out the elements that contribute to the making of a film. Not just any film mind you, but a great film. Great enough to nominated for a best picture Academy Award nomination. That is a select. elite group that numbers a mere and mortal 10. That's it, ten. Here they are (just in case you have been out of the universe over the course of the last few years) 2022 saw a 57% increase in the total number of films produced domestically over pre-pandemic 792 to last year's 449. The ten best as voted upon by the voting members of the Academy:

We spend the bulk of our almost ninety minutes in deep (mostly deep) discussion about those ten films. We covered a lot of ground in the process, as one would imagine or expect from a pair of Irishmen with nothing better to do.
