And good afternoon film fans, today is Tuesday Nov. 29 and we've got a lot of ground to cover today, so let's fire up the magical audio machine and get 'er running, shall we? As is our new and improved standardized text format, we'll give you the raw data up front - followed by a more detailed and in-depth dive into the nuts and bolts, including a special event on Sunday of which you should be aware, immediately after this pertinent info.
TUESDAY, NOV 29: THE MENU @ 5 & 7:15 (Open caption IS available)
WEDNESDAY, NOV 30: THE MENU @ 5 & 7:15
THURSDAY, DEC 1: THE MENU @ 5 & I HEARD THE BELLS @ 7
FRIDAY, DEC 2: THE MENU @ 4:30 & THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN @ 6:45
SAT & SUN, DEC 3&4: THE MENU @ 2, I HEARD THE BELLS @ 4 & THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN @ 6:15
By now you should know all about THE MENU. Here is an astounding footnote: It will be starting its unpresented third week at the HLT! Not even my Top Six of 2022 (so far and in no special order): Licorice Pizza, Everything, Everywhere, Worst Person in the World, Vengeance, Crawdads and Tar, have accomplished that) See it today for a taste of truly dark satire.
Here is the synopsis for I HEARD THE BELLS: Known as America's Poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow leads an idyllic life...until the day his world is shattered by tragedy. With a nation divided by Civil War and his family torn apart, Henry puts down his pen, silenced by grief. But it's the sound of Christmas morning that reignites the poet's lost voice as he discovers the resounding hope of rekindled faith. Sound interesting? I think so.
As if all that wasn't enough, we have a special treat in store for you on Sunday, Dec 4. Selected players from the Bainbridge Island Marching Band we perform live, on stage at the HLT , prior to, and upon completion of a special screening of the Disney classic FANTASIA! Door open at 9:30am with a show time of 10. This is a fund raiser to financially assist the kids as they embark on a musical experience of a lifetime to play on Mainstreet USA in the Magic Kingdom of Disneyland. Please come out and support these talented young musicians as they perform a set of Holiday classics and host the equally classic FANTASIA. We will also have a QR code available for the Venmo option. Again doors open at 9:30 Sunday morning.
Speaking of Banshees, should you have been in the audience for last Saturday's special screening of The Banshees of Inisherin, you would know that the film's Associate Producer and First Assistant Director, Peter Kohn, lives in Bainbridge and will be my guest on the podcast Thursday. I hope to be able to turn it around and post on Friday morning, giving you the rare opportunity to 1) Stream IN BRUGES (featuring the threesome who bring you Banshees - Martin McDonough, Colin Ferrell and Brendan Gleeson , 2) Listen to the podcast, thereby providing all the backstory relevant to the total enjoyment of this fabulous film, and then, 3) Come see it at the HLT. Oh yes, (4) and to add a bit of Irish desert to all that, we just now tapped a fresh keg of Battle Point Stout, a brew some say (I among them) that it is better than Guiness. The heretics have tasted - and spoken! You try it and see for yourself.
All for today folks. As always should you feel compelled to comment, go to our FB link below and fire away. Peace be with you my brothers and sisters, hope to see you once or twice, here at the start of the Holiday Season at the Historic Lynwood Theatre. Since 1936.
Cheers,
Kevin
