The cost of tutition for higher education has risen significantly in the past few decades, well above that rate of inflation. 529 plans are sponsored by states, state agencies, or educational institutions and are a way to help people save and invest for future educational expenses. Different plans give different benefits, depending on the plan and the state you live in. This podcast looks at the basics of 529 plans.
Of the many websites I looked at, I found https://www.savingforcollege.com/ to be a helpful website. It is owned by VentureKite, which appears to be a private for-profit business. Savingforcollege.com states they provide “unbiased information to assist families in meeting the rising costs of education.”
