Pat Metheny, the great jazz guitarist and the late John Martyn are the two main influences on Changing Time. In the album Solid Air John Martyn uses a pedal - I think it was called a duoplex - to create echoes /delays in his playing. The interesting bit, which I think he probably did instinctively, is to then play along with the rhythm he created. I 've had a go here - instead of "tapping" an electric guitar right and left hand technique, I tried to create the pattern by repeated hammering with the left hand alone. The album Watercolours by Pat Metheny is one of his best and uses a 15 string harp guitar - with resonating open strings. The gentle sound he produces is wonderful and almost obscures the stunning playing which is just assumed and understated. Changing Time was used in the last round of playing I did in 2016 with Clive Batkin. Another internet sensation - here's the you tube link https://youtu.be/tRsg0q_fqNg
