Continuing on with the discussion I had with this really interesting musician - we argued about "genius". Nature or Nurture ?
I think genius is when that combination of natural ability coincides with an individual is nurtured in that same area where they have tremendous natural ability. I've never seen it close up but I have worked with some children of outstanding natural ability ( but maybe not the application or support to develop that ability)
