Description

The Calliope - the final piece for Young Jazz Band from the 5 pieces of The Fairground Suite.  The Calliope is a steam organ that plays loud tunes to draw people to the Fairground. The Great Dorset Steam Fair, which we used to visit when the children were young had these - powered by Steam engines playing repetitive tunes all day and throughout the evening if I remember rightly.
I'll put all 5 pieces from the Fairground Suite together over the Christmas Holiday season. This is taken from a collection of pieces I composed with a wonderful musician a chap called Stephen Binnington. Originally scored for Guitar and Piano I've arranged this version for a young Jazz Band. The original piece was called Raggin'It and was taken from a collection of tunes called Bunch of Fives published by Corda Music and the late Ian Gammie in the year 2000.
