Description

I thought about putting the 12 studies up one at a time - but they are intended as a collection of concert studies and that was how I recorded them. It may be a bit of a hard listen - and I apologise for that, But they are individually wonderful pieces and collectively a very strong representation of just how good a guitar composer Villa Lobos was. Apparently they were written between about 1924 and 1929. Published in France in 1952. No.1 had a huge influence on pieces I have composed such as Daybreak and Setting Sun with their intricate right hand patterns. Listen out for No.5 - a simple repetitive pattern underlying a folk melody and the powerful 10, 11 and 12. I think I recorded them straight on to cassette tape so they are noisier than I would have liked.
