I don't know about you, but I'm somewhat of a curious person, often wondering about the mechanics of something. I enjoy seeing the workings of a machine, all the gears and vacuum hoses. As a young boy I just had to know how the alarm clock in my parents' bedroom worked... thus, I proceeded to take it apart piece by piece with screwdriver and magnifying glass in hand.
When my dad would work on the car, I would often climb underneath alongside of him and volunteer to hand him tools. I enjoyed seeing what was beneath the surface, the real machine housed under the shiny metal and polished trim.
In a similar way, people visiting Alpine see the external things, but must wonder what's actually beneath the surface? "Who are these people called Alpine, and what do they actually believe? What fuels their faith and generates their actions? Are their expressions merely a facade, temporary, just for the moment, or are they the 'genuine thing'? I'd like to look underneath for some reassurance, to make sure things are healthy." And so, let's go under the hood and make sure the machine is 'ready' for the inspection of others!
