Season 1, Episode 10 - Welcome to the Clergy Wellness Podcast, this is season 1, episode 10, Self Confidence for Ministry and Life

Today will we also look at:  A wellness practice of the week, What is making this week good, and a  Mindfulness Meditation.

Self-confidence is being secure in who you are.  You know you can trust yourself. That you can feel all your feelings and know it's OK.  In other words, self-confidence is the overall opinion you hold of yourself.

How do we grow in self-confidence?  A couple of ideas I am working with -
1.   Be honest with yourself about your self-confidence.  Don’t see it as a, “it is what it is” thing in your life.  Instead, see where you are and know you deserve better.
2. Notice when you sell yourself short. Growing your awareness will help you grow.
3. Make the choice to believe in yourself and begin doing this important work.

Self-Confidence matters because growing our self-confidence helps us have less fear and anxiety, grows our motivation and resilience, and helps us grow our trust in ourselves.

Quotes:
“High self-esteem seems to operate like a bank of positive emotions, which furnish a general sense of well-being and can be useful when you need an extra dose of confidence to cope with misfortune, ward off depression, or bounce back from failure.” –Roy Baumeister and John Tierney,  Willpower

“Being for yourself, not against others but on your own side, is the foundation of all practices of health, well-being, and effectiveness.” --Rick Hanson, Hardwiring Happiness

Wellness Practice -
What have you done that you are proud of- preached good sermons, grown a vegetable garden, reached out to an old friend, dealt with a difficult staff member?  If you can, write them down but at the very least bring a couple – 5 would be great – to mind.

Savor your success.  I say this cause too often we rush to the next thing.  Thinking what we have done doesn’t matter or is no big deal.  But for the sake of your wellness, put that aside and think of what you have done this year that you can celebrate.  For thinking on these things will build our self-confidence and grow our wellness.

Mindfulness Text: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
