One of the more powerful passages in the New Testament is Philippians 2:6-11 which speaks of how Christ emptied Himself of His place in divinity to come to earth. He "humbled Himself" and became like us in order to save us. Paul says "You should have the same attitude" as Christ, and he can speak, given how he gave up the status he had in Jerusalem to become an Apostle. For us today, we recognize the call of Christianity is toward selflessness. Since our culture today seeks recognition and status, having the same humility as Christ Jesus requires us to view things differently.
