Self care - Independence
One of the things schools fail to do is to help teens steer themselves on the right path and as part of the discussion today we will be focusing on the realm of independence.
For many teens a lot is done for them – whilst on the other end of the spectrum teens are expected to do too much for their families and themselves.
Today we will be looking at the importance of independence to maintain a good sense of who they are through:
The world of work
The ability to take on responsibilities (cleaning – chores)
The ability to nourish themselves (Cooking) – Courses for this
The ownership of money
Navigating through transports
Having their own space
All of these things are acts of self care – in understanding how to manage a range of things at one time and why doing everything for your teenager is probably doing themselves a disservice
