Green bonds didn’t always signal credibility. In 2015, most issuers had never heard of them, and structuring teams were making it up as they went.
That meant structuring teams had to educate issuers from scratch, with little precedent or clear frameworks. In fact, most deals were being figured out in real-time.
Today, sustainable finance has grown into the trillions, but credibility remains a core issue. In a world of evolving taxonomies, rising greenwashing risks, and shrinking new issuance, knowing what’s authentic (and investable) requires more than a label.
Romina Reversi has lived this evolution from the inside. She helped build JP Morgan’s ESG debt business and now leads sustainable investment banking across the Americas at Crédit Agricole, structuring over 500 sustainable finance deals, including Apple’s first green bond and Uruguay’s pioneering step-up/step-down SLB.
In this episode, Romina talks about:
● Why some green bonds still fail investor due diligence
● What sovereign SLBs reveal about incentives and impact measurement
● How AI is shaping the future of ESG disclosures
● Why biodiversity is becoming a real financial KPI
● Why nuclear energy is re-entering the sustainable finance conversation
