The pharisee believed he was good enough to approach God, and the tax collector believed God was too good to approach.

God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
James 4:6
God hates pride
· It steals His glory.
· It keeps us from repentance.
· It fosters judgmentalism.

· Only the humble can be saved.
· Humility cultivates love.
· God will fight your battles.
· God gets glory—and that is good for you!
words of caution
You can follow Jesus and still struggle with pride.
People with high visibility roles are at risk.
It is possible to admire humility without being humble.
Pride can be hidden from men, and humility can be faked.

Acknowledge and confess your sources of pride.
Daily examine your heart.
Avoid making comparisons.
Resist judgmentalism.
Remember the Cross.
