What is our attitude supposed to be toward our government and authority in our lives? To rebel against authority is ultimately to rebel against God because God is sovereign and places people in authority. When you place your trust in God's sovereignty, you will be amazed at His goodness. It is important that we respect and honor those who are in authority because we are called to put true humility on display. There are times, however, when we can respectfully question or refuse authority. When considering this, here are some questions to address: Does the request or demand of authority violate scripture? This is not your interpretation of scripture but the true meaning of it. It is important to seek council for this. Is refusing authority on this specific topic a hill to die on? Are we willing to suffer the consequences of the decision? We need to be people that understand that convictions are varied and different. Let's be a people of grace for one another.
