The letter B in Greek is pronounced V. Keep that. Βους (vous) in both ancient and modern Greek means cow, ox and bull. Βουκολος (voukolos) is a Shepard and βουκολικό (vouloliko) used to mean ‘the field where cows feed’. The word jumbed to Latin almost intact bucolicus and came to the English language meaning ‘pastoral’ until it caught up with the Greeks around the 17th century who have started using it to describe poetry dedicated to the beautiful countryside life.
