I recently experienced my first-ever Disney Cruise. As a childless, female, non-Disney person, and solo traveler, it was an interesting experience, and I want to share my thoughts with you. 

Until now, I have only cruised on Norwegian Cruise Line, so in today's podcast, I will use NCL as a point of reference to compare my DCL experience.

What did DCL do right?

• Straightforward check-in process
• Wonderful welcome ceremony when boarding the ship where they announce your name to the entire ship.
• Incredible service/staff
• Beautiful ship
• So fun seeing all the characters
• Delicious meal at the upcharge restaurant Remy
• Free room service with very good food
• Fun experience snorkeling in Castaway Cay
• The luxury consignment store on board was a pleasant surprise  

Where DCL missed the mark (in my opinion):

• Lack of adult activities
• Food served in the main dining rooms was subpar 
•  Outdated decor
• Nighttime vibes for adults were very mellow
• The theatre shows were all geared towards children (again, this is my opinion)
• Difficult to navigate the ship. I prefer NCL, which has carpeting indicating what direction you're walking in.
• No drink package  
• Only two dining times and the restaurant rotations are chosen for you. I prefer NCL's freestyle dining.
• I think NCL's spa is much nicer than DCL's Rainforest Room
• Only one attraction (the Aqua Duck) with very long wait times. NCL has multiple attractions available.

My overall thoughts about DCL:
I think DCL is not an ideal cruise for solo travelers because of its lack of adult-themed activities, and they also do not have solo traveler meetups as NCL does. DCL is safe and would be great for a solo traveler who loves Disney and is ok spending their time alone and not socializing. I would highly recommend DCL add a solo traveler meetup to their daily itinerary to help other solo travelers meet each other.

I would go on another Disney Cruise if my family was going on one, but I will not be cruising Disney Cruise for a solo trip, mainly for the fact that NCL is much more solo travel friendly.
