The hallmark of the book of Jonah is Jonah's disobedience to preach to the infidel, pagan Ninevites, guilty of what would be called atrocities by almost any standard, ancient or modern. But there is a much more grave sin in the story than simple disobedience - one that has traditionally gone unnoticed. God's message to us in this is so important, as we are all tempted by this same sin. Many centuries later, Christ Himself will refer to the "sign of Jonah".
