We understand reputation in a certain way. In fact, our culture has come close to idolatry in terms of reputation. The culture when Proverbs was written was very different. Reputation could not be easily earned. It were given. Usually, a power greater than yourself grants it. Dr. Sams reminds us that when Jesus gives us a name, it is written in His eternal book of life. We are noted as His brother, God's children, and as such, we share in an inheritance that is good, eternal, and irrevocable. It's more than good news, it's the best news ever.
