Description

Supernatural Season 2, Episode 17, Heart recap 🐺 Werewolves come to San Francisco, Dean is SO excited about it, and Sam falls hard for Madison (Emmanuelle Vaugier), the strong, independent woman the boys are protecting, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. Grab tissues for this one.

A man walks home after being a creep at girls' night out and has his heart ripped right out of his chest. The coroner (with a very sexy blonde bob) is stumped, but Dean is giddy: werewolves are badass, and they haven't seen one since they were kids. Silver bullets in hand, the boys trace the attacks to Madison, whose ex has been stalking her, and Sam takes bodyguard duty. What starts as a protection gig turns into a whole lot more.

Episode Highlights:

In the lore segment, we dig into the history of werewolf legends, from the Epic of Gilgamesh and King Lycaon, turned into a wolf by Zeus, to the Völsunga saga's cursed wolf pelts; Pierre Burgot and Michel Verdun, burned at the stake in 1521 France after confessing to using a werewolf ointment (watch your essential oils, people); Gilles Garnier, the Werewolf of Dole; Peter Stumpp of Bedburg, Germany; Peter the Wild Boy, kept by two English kings; the medical conditions that may explain werewolf legends; and an Australian hospital study on whether violent incidents spike during a full moon. (Plus, Berly's mandatory Michael Sheen in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans appreciation).

"What about a human by day, a freak animal killing machine by moonlight? Do you not understand? Werewolves are badass! We haven't seen one since we were kids." – Dean Winchester
