Supernatural Season 3, Episode 14, Long-Distance Call recap 📞 People in a small Michigan town are getting phone calls from their dead loved ones, and Dean gets a call from someone he's been dying to hear from: Dad, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. Fair warning: this might be Berly's least favorite episode so far. (Stick around to find out why.)
Sam and Dean investigate calls from a mysterious number, Shaw 33, and find a whole town talking to the dead: a woman getting calls from her mother, a man hearing from his late mistress. Then Dean's phone rings, and it's John Winchester, who says he knows a way to get Dean out of his deal. Sam isn't buying it. Dean desperately wants to. The title is shared with a 1961 Twilight Zone episode and a Richard Matheson (I Am Legend) short story about a widow getting calls from her dead husband, later adapted for The Twilight Zone as Night Call.
Episode Highlights:
In the lore segment, we dig into the crocotta of Ethiopian and Indian legend, a dog-wolf-hyena hybrid that mimics human voices to lure its prey, its cousin the leucrota, and how both were likely early attempts to describe the spotted hyena.
Sam: "It's a crocotta."
Dean: "Gesundheit."
