Description

Supernatural Season 2, Episode 6, No Exit recap ⚰️ Jo Harvelle goes on her very first hunt, and the ghost of H.H. Holmes, America's first serial killer, is snatching petite blondes from an apartment building in Philadelphia on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. Ellen is NOT happy about it.

Jo (Alona Tal) is desperate to hunt, Ellen is desperate to stop her, and when the boys take over Jo's case file, Jo shows up anyway with fake IDs courtesy of Ash. (Ellen does not know she's there. Yet.) The trio investigates a building where blonde tenants keep vanishing, the halls smell like chloroform, and there's ectoplasm oozing from the walls. It all leads back to H.H. Holmes, the infamous killer behind the Chicago Murder Castle, and the old Moyamensing Prison grounds where the building now stands. Fun fact: The title also shares its name with Jean-Paul Sartre's 1944 play No Exit, which fits an episode about being trapped.

Episode Highlights:

In the lore segment, we ask whether ectoplasm is real: the real biological kind (it helps amoebas move!) and the supernatural kind, a term coined by Nobel Prize winner Charles Richet, plus ideoplasm and teleplasm, the gauzy (not slimy) ectoplasm of 1900s séances, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle claiming ectoplasm felt alive (Sherlock, no), and the mediums exposed as frauds.

"Well, Sam, I think I know what we're dealing with here... It's the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man." – Dean Winchester
