Description

Supernatural Season 5, Episode 11, Sam, Interrupted recap 🧠 Sam and Dean get themselves committed to a psychiatric hospital in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, to hunt a monster, and a doctor diagnoses their relationship as DANGEROUSLY codependent (we could've told you that) on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. It's the midseason premiere! (Fun fact: the title is a nod to Girl, Interrupted.)

First, a thank-you to Juliet0720 for her review: she's also a new fan of the show and is watching along with us! Then it's on to the episode: an old hunter friend of John's, Martin (Jon Gries), calls the boys in because patients at his hospital keep dying in suicides that don't add up. To get inside, Sam and Dean have to convince Dr. Fuller (Malcolm Stewart) they're unwell, and once they're admitted, separate group therapy sessions start digging into the boys' issues. Dean meets the lovely Dr. Erica Cartwright (Michelle Harrison), Sam's anger keeps bubbling up, and the boys realize they're hunting a wraith that feeds on brains... but who is it?

Episode Highlights:

• The boys checking in as Edward and Alex Van Halen, referred by Dr. Babar (the elephant)
• Dean calling Nurse Foreman (Lara Gilchrist) Nurse Ratched (he's seen One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest)
• Dr. Fuller separating them for being dangerously codependent
• Group therapy with the Winchesters (oh, the issues)
• Drugged-up Sam telling Dean he loves him... then booping his nose
• The wraith's silver-and-mirror weaknesses
• Sam's anger getting very, very scary
• A twist that made us second-guess everyone
• What happened in Albuquerque? We'll never know.

In the lore segment, we dig into wraiths, from Supernatural's brain-sucking version to the Scottish folklore wraith: a ghostly apparition often seen right before death, said to be the remains of sorcerers whose dark spells failed to save them, complete with purple robes and Grim Reaper vibes (and how to banish one from your basement). Think Lord of the Rings' Ringwraiths or Harry Potter's Dementors. We don't want to deal with any of them.

Nurse Foreman: "What are you boys doing in here?"
(Cue Dean dropping his pants.) "Pudding!"

Your turn, hunters: Which brother needed therapy more, Sam or Dean? And did you see that twist coming? Tell us in the Spotify comments, leave a rating and review on Apple Podcasts (it's how new hunters find us, and we might read yours on air!), or send us fan mail. Bonus points for fandom fun facts we missed.
