Supernatural Season 5, Episode 20, The Devil You Know recap 😈 Crowley (Mark Sheppard) teams up with the Winchesters to hunt Pestilence, and the trail leads to a demon (Eric Johnson) running a pharmaceutical company, and to an old friend of Sam's from Stanford, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.
The episode opens in a lab where a scientist gets infected with the Croatoan virus and does... very bad things to his coworker, giving us our 29th blood splooge of the series. Then Crowley pops up in the Impala's back seat (in a very nice suit) with an offer: he'll help the boys find Pestilence, because Lucifer's coming for the demons too. Sam is NOT on board, but Dean reluctantly agrees. The hunt leads to Niveus Pharmaceuticals, a company working on a swine flu vaccine, and its executive, Brady, who knows more about Sam's past than Sam ever did.
Episode Highlights:
In the lore segment, we dig into the real-life demon pharma bro behind our Brady comparison: Martin Shkreli, who raised the price of the life-saving drug Daraprim by over 5,000 percent, insisted he wasn't evil, and was sentenced to seven years in prison for securities fraud (the government even seized his one-of-a-kind Wu-Tang Clan album).
Crowley: "Your ignorance and misinformation. I mean, completely authentic. You can't fake that. What? It went like clockwork."
Dean: "Not for me, you son of a bitch!"
Crowley: "That's what you get, working with a demon."
Your turn, hunters: Is Crowley growing on you? And did Brady's reveal wreck you too? Tell us in the Spotify comments, leave a rating and review on Apple Podcasts (it's how new hunters find us), or send us fan mail. Bonus points for fandom fun facts we missed.
