Day 58 — “Atonement for Sin”
📖 Leviticus 16
Leviticus 16 brings us to one of the most sobering days in Israel’s calendar — the Day of Atonement.
Once a year.
One high priest.
One sacred moment.
The message was clear: sin is serious.
It separates.
It defiles.
It cannot be ignored.
Blood was shed.
A substitute was offered.
A scapegoat carried the sins of the people away into the wilderness.
God was teaching His people something essential:
Forgiveness is costly.
Cleansing requires atonement.
Reconciliation demands a substitute.
But even in the weight of ritual and sacrifice, we see mercy.
God did not leave His people without hope.
He made a way.
The Day of Atonement reminds us that sin must be dealt with — but it also reminds us that God Himself provides the means.
Justice and mercy meet.
Holiness and compassion stand together.
And the greater fulfillment of this day points us forward to the ultimate atonement — where sin is not merely covered for a year, but fully paid.
Today’s reminder: Don’t minimize sin. But don’t underestimate God’s provision.
He always makes a way for cleansing.
