In episode 7 of Seeing Death Clearly, my guest today is Fiona Pimentel.

Fiona grew up in the UK but lives in the Cayman Islands and has for the last 21 years.

Fiona and I talk about her experiences with death and dying, focusing on the death of her sister and her mother within a few weeks of each other.

It is an interesting story, she shares how things lined up in a way that almost felt like they were meant to be that way and how it allowed her to be with her mother for the last few weeks of her life.

“I sat by my mom’s bedside for a week and just kind of stroked her arms and put moisturizer on her skin. They teach you to put a drop of water on the person's tongue because they can't drink. I would say things like, I love you and stuff like that.”

We talk a lot about grief, how the body will process grief in unusual ways sometimes, and how most of us do not take the time to consciously process our grief.

“My Dad was kind of in a process of dying for two years. I didn't really grieve him that much until one day I was dancing and all of a sudden all this grief came out. It was the dance, it was the movement that brought it out.”

Fiona works with women who feel that they have a sense of purpose to help them to grow their confidence and to get clarity around what they need to do, to be more courageous in stepping out and doing the thing they feel called to do.

The work goes so well with the lessons we have learned from people that are near death, and the regrets that they have around not chasing after their dreams because of fear.

As with all of my conversations on the podcast, I hope it challenges you to think about your experiences and beliefs about death, dying, and grief.
