Today, I sit down with Reverend Cheryl Kincaid — an author, minister, and survivor who has made it her mission to help wounded Christians rediscover God’s love. We dive deep into her story of faith, forgiveness, and recovery after growing up in an abusive home where her father, an alcoholic and pedophile, left emotional and spiritual scars that shaped her journey. Despite this painful past, Ms. Kincaid found healing in the words “God is love,” and has spent her life helping others bring their trauma to the light of Christ.
Ms. Kincaid shares powerful insights on the difference between forgiveness and denial, how to set faith-based boundaries with abusers, and how to release anger without excusing wrongdoing. She reminds us that even Jesus reserved the right not to trust some people — and that Christians can do the same without guilt. Through Scripture and real-world examples, she explains how God’s timing brings full healing, even when we feel broken beyond repair.
We also explore Ms. Kincaid’s writing journey, from her first book Hearing the Gospel Through Dickens’ A Christmas Carol to her novels Carrie’s Thorn and A Forgotten Door Called Home, which explore trauma and faith from a realistic Christian perspective. She also shares her upcoming devotional A Hope and a Future for Survivors of Abuse, inspired by Jeremiah 29:11. This conversation reminds us that no matter the pain, God can make beauty from ashes and light from darkness.
