Are your clients struggling with secondary infertility? If so, have you asked them about their first birth? 

In today’s episode Lynn discusses her experience with a client that was struggling with secondary infertility which is defined as “the inability to conceive or carry a baby to term after previously giving birth” (Penn Medicine). During the physical assessment of her client, the uterus was hard and had decreased mobility. After talking more with her client about her client’s previous birth experience, Lynn used the trauma release statement of: “We ask the body to release any shock or trauma that is being held in these tissues knowing the baby is out, the labor is over, and everyone is okay.” The uterus softened and became more mobile.

By acknowledging and releasing the trauma of a previous birth, we can help our clients feel safe in their bodies which can relax the tissues allowing the body to function more optimally. Here are some questions to consider in your assessments of clients experiencing secondary infertility:  

Looking for these signs in the body and acknowledging trauma from a prior pregnancy can support a client in their fertility journey.
